Ini Edo champions marketing of Akwa Ibom as Tourists’ and Investors’ haven
Top Nollywood actress Ini Edo is championing the marketing of Akwa Ibom State as a choice destination for Nigerians and visitors alike. This she believes will drive direct investment in all sectors to her home state.
The multiple award winning actress and brand ambassador stated this in her speech and capacity as the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Tourism Development, during a press briefing at Government House Uyo to hint journalists on the planned project, as preparations are in top gear for the hosting of the maiden edition of ‘Akwa Ibom Heritage Festival’.
‘Akwa Ibom Heritage Festival’ is a 3- Day programme scheduled for 15th through 17th December 2016, it will include a cultural float tagged ‘Parade of Colours’ with participants drawn from the 31 Local Government Areas that make up the state. There will also be a Boat Reggata at Ayadeghe, Itu Local Government Area, involving coastal communities and participants from other climes, winners shall go home with fantastic prizes.
His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel will flag off the parade at Unity park, while his wife Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel will declare open a Fashion Parade and Cooking competition which will showcase local designers and Akwa Ibom’s rich cuisines on day 2 and day 3 respectively. Speaking at the briefing , the member of the State Executive Council and Commissioner in charge of Tourism & Culture, Otuekong Emmanuel Ibiok stated that the festival is in line with the 5 Point Agenda of the Udom Emmanuel led administration to provide robust programmes that would fast track the development of the tourism industry for wealth creation, employment generation and sustainability.
Otuekong Ibiok in his speech noted that Akwa Ibom, blessed with significant cultural relics, talents, rich cuisines, beautiful coastline and water ways, as well as hospitable people, observed that these ambience and the relative peace in the state has singled it out as a haven for tourists and the Ibom Fest 2016 a wonderful initiative by a ‘daughter of the soil’ who is well known abroad as a successful actress, would expose these beautiful heritage to the global community.
Miss Ini Edo said the festival is themed ” Our Culture Beyond Borders” and would attract foreign direct investment to the state, as well as create opportunity for stakeholders in the tourism industry to showcase their potentials, emphasizing efforts to discover new talents in the process.
